Taiwanese Scientist To Join China's Arctic Survey Group
A mainland Arctic survey team will set forth from Xiamen, China, on July 1 and a Taiwanese scientist is invited for the first time to join the group.
Li Hai-chin, spokesman of the State Oceanic Administration (SOA), China, said in Xiamen that the fourth Arctic survey team and the Snow Dragon survey boat had come from Shanghai to Xiamen on June 25. They will go to the Arctic to execute scientific research on July the first and will go back to Shanghai on Sept. 23. The total duration of the project is about eight five days.
The team, 122 people in total, consists of scientists, logistics and the press. The members include people from the USA, France, Finland, Estonia, Korea and Taiwan, according to the China News Service (CNS).
A specialist from the Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica (BRCAS), Liao Yun-chih, is also a member of the survey team. Cross strait scientists had cooperated to explore the Antarctic Pole few years ago, and this is the first time they do research at the North Pole together.
